On 14 March 2023, the UK Medicines regulator approved an application to reclassify the erectile dysfunction medication Cialis. When marketed asCialis Together(tadalafil 10mg), it will be a ‘P’ (pharmacy) medication, and so available ‘over the counter’ in pharmacies – see. This follows the 2018, ‘P’ classification of (sildenafil 50mg) which has been available OTC, without a prescription, since then.
This decision is good news for men’s health …. Erectile dysfunction can be a debilitating condition, so it’s important men feel they have fast access to quality and legitimate care
Dr Laura Squire, MHRA’s Chief Officer for Healthcare, Quality and Access
Unfortunately, there is a strong black market in the UK for ED medicines, which are often unlicensed or counterfeit. UK Border Force and the MHRA seize millions of pounds of these fake products from criminals annually. This new classification of tadalafil 10mg will enable men who suffer from ED to obtain it safely from a local pharmacy.
Sanofi, the drug manufacturer, is expected to launch Cialis Together later in 2023. Cialis Together will be available to purchase in pharmacies without a prescription by men over 18 with erectile dysfunction. Cialis Together tablets will contain 10mg tadalafil and the maximum pack size will be 8 tablets. Other doses and pack sizes of Cialis and tadalafil will still be available on prescription through doctors and specially trained pharmacists. Before purchase in a pharmacy there must be an assessment with a pharmacist, who will check that Cialis Together is appropriate and safe, or whether consultation with a GP is necessary.
Men suffering with ED will have another treatment option with the convenience of purchasing it in their local pharmacy, including pharmacies found inside supermarkets (eg. Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s). The pharmacist will ask some health questions, may check blood pressure, and will advise on treatment with Cialis Together or Viagra Connect, or the need to consult a GP. Pharmacies usually have a private room for such discussions.
Cialis Together is a 10mg tadalafil product for use at least 30 minutes prior to anticipated sexual activity. Its effects can last. It is not recommended for daily use. The maximum recommended dose of Cialis Together will be one tablet in 24 hours. Prescription Cialis and tadalafil will still be available at different doses.
Dr Fox welcomes the wider access to ED medication for men that Cialis Together classified as a ‘P’ OTC medication will provide. We at Dr Fox are aware of the difficulties men have in discussing ED with their GPs and in accessing ED medication. We know that Cialis is effective and safe for most men and this change provides another option for obtaining ED treatment. Pharmacists are health professionals who are able to give ED advice but they will also know when to refer men who would benefit from a doctor’s assessment. ‘P’ medicines can also be supplied on prescription, and we will offer Cialis Together, when available, alongside our other competitively priced ED products.

The Mexican drugmaker, which makes more than $5 billion in the past six years, said it’s been selling a range of fake Viagra and other prescription drugs through its online and retail pharmacies, but didn’t specify which drugs were being sold over the counter in the United States.
“Finding a pharmacy that is registered with the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will help us keep the safety of those that come in with fake versions of our medicines as safe and as possible,” said Andrés Garcia, the company’s vice president of pharmaceuticals.
The counterfeit drugs are sold over the counter at a fraction of the price of the authentic ones, Garcia said, adding that about 80 percent of the counterfeit drugs are sold online, and only a few are made in the U.
Fake Viagra is a dangerous practice, with fake versions of the drug coming in low doses, and those containing the wrong active ingredients, and are not absorbed fully, Garcia said.
“The fact is that the FDA has the authority to regulate what is sold over the counter and the buying public,” he said. “We have to get it to the manufacturer’s site to keep people safe.”

In Mexico, Garcia said he sells fake Viagra for about 40 to 60 percent of the price of authentic drugs, but has not specified how many pills he sells in each category.
If you buy brand-name Viagra from an online pharmacy, be sure to tell them that you’re buying from a registered Mexican pharmacist. If you have a prescription for Viagra, be sure to tell them that you’re taking the medication with the prescription from a licensed U. doctor.
Pfizer, the nation’s biggest pharmaceutical company, said it’s working on finding counterfeit versions of the drug in the U. S., though it’s still looking for approved FDA approved drugs.
But it’s not clear how much counterfeit drugs are sold, and a new study by the New England Journal of Medicine, in partnership with the National Institute of Health, says some counterfeit drugs are sold online and some aren’t even on the market.
The study, which involved 232 consumers, found that between 15 and 30 percent of the fake pills sold were fake, and those sold at least once in a year.
The FDA hasn’t made it known for certain about the study, but it’s clear that the number of fake Viagra pills sold is growing, with the FDA now regulating what is sold over the counter.
In Mexico, Garcia said he’s buying pills from online drugstores and selling them through his own drugstore. In the U. S., he sells pills from retail pharmacies, but he hasn’t specified how many pills he sells.

FDA announced the approval of a new, generic version of Viagra® for women.
FDA approved the new, generic version of Viagra® for women by the end of October. The drug, which is similar to another female Viagra, is available in the US for about $35.99 a pill.
Viagra® was originally developed as a treatment for erectile dysfunction, but it became available as a generic version in the USA in 2015. FDA had to approve the new drug because of a number of side effects including headache, facial flushing, and abnormal vision, and the drug's approval was based on that.
Viagra® is used to treat symptoms of impotence. The generic is a similar to Viagra®, but the brand name is the same as the brand name and is sold under the same name. FDA has approved the new drug’s generic version to treat the following conditions:
Viagra® is approved for women only. This is a prescription medication used to treat the condition of impotence or to treat symptoms of an enlarged prostate.
